Seeds: Inclement Weather and ShippingUpdated 8 days ago
To protect your seeds from potential damage during shipping, it’s essential to bring your package inside as quickly as possible during cold or wet weather. Exposure to these conditions can negatively affect the seeds, depending on their type and sensitivity.
- Warm-weather seeds: These seeds prefer non-freezing temperatures. Extended exposure to sub-freezing cold can reduce the germination rates of summer-loving plants.
- Cold-stratified seeds: Seeds accustomed to cold stratification and fall sowing are generally fine in cold weather unless moisture penetrates the box.
If your package is wet and you notice dampness on the seed packets inside, those seeds should be planted as soon as possible. Wet seeds are at risk of developing mold or rot, or they may attempt to germinate in the packet. You can try drying out the seeds, but this may not always be successful. In such cases, please contact our customer service team for assistance.
Please note that we are not responsible for packages left in the elements by the carrier. It is the customer's responsibility to provide carriers with a safe, protected area for delivery. To ensure your seeds remain in the best condition, bring them into a warm, dry environment as soon as they arrive, avoid leaving them outdoors overnight, and prevent exposure to rain. If you won’t be home at the time of delivery, we recommend directing your carrier to leave the package in a dry, sheltered spot.
If you’re ever unsure whether your seeds have been affected by weather conditions, please contact our customer service team with details about the conditions and the seeds you ordered. We’re happy to help!
