Placing Birdies Beds on Various Surfaces
Birdies Raised Beds can be placed on any surface, from bare dirt to concrete. Here are our recommended instructions:
Wooden Surfaces
Prevent Staining and Warping: Ensure your wooden surface is completely sealed. If not, clean it and apply a coat of sealer, allowing it to cure before setting up your bed.
Protection: Lay a sheet of thick builder’s plastic on the wooden surface. Place your bed on top of the plastic.
Drainage: Do not run the plastic upward inside the bed, as it will trap water. Fill the bed with soil.
Trimming Excess Plastic: Once the bed is filled and stable, use scissors to trim any excess plastic, leaving a 1” edge around the bed's exterior. This protects the wooden surface even if the bed moves.
