Placing Birdies Beds on Various Surfaces

Birdies Raised Beds can be placed on any surface, from bare dirt to concrete. Here are our recommended instructions for using gravel:

Gravel

Installation: Place your raised bed on a thin layer of gravel (2-3 inches maximum).

Drainage Considerations: Gravel allows for excess moisture to drain, but it may prevent worms from migrating from the native soil into the bed.

Monitoring Moisture: Regularly monitor moisture levels. If the bed starts holding too much moisture, fine soil particulates may clog the gravel, hindering drainage and creating an artificial water table effect.

Optimal Placement: For optimal results and natural soil integration, consider placing the bed directly on bare soil.
