Placing Birdies Beds on Various Surfaces

Birdies Raised Beds can be placed on any surface, from bare dirt to concrete. Here are our recommended instructions:

Grass

1. Smothering the Grass: The weight of the soil will smother the grass directly under the bed.
2. Setup: Assemble your bed and place it in the desired location.
3. Weed Prevention: Use the cardboard from the packaging as a sheet mulch inside the bed. If it's a deep bed, add a few logs to keep the cardboard in place while filling it with soil. This setup will kill the grass underneath while allowing good drainage.
4. Protection and Drainage: Place the bottom edge of the bed on a 1” deep layer of pea gravel or stone chips for sturdy footing and added drainage.
