Caring for Your Seed Cell Trays: Durability and Maintenance TipsUpdated 9 days ago
Our seed cell trays are designed to be super sturdy and durable in a variety of conditions, making them a reliable choice for starting your seeds. Here's how to care for them to ensure long-lasting use:
Durability in Hot Weather:
- The trays can withstand any temperature that’s suitable for plants. While the plastic can handle even more extreme temperatures, the real concern is sunlight, not heat. Prolonged exposure to UV rays can lead to the breakdown of plastic, so it’s best to store the trays indoors when not in use.
Durability in Cold Weather:
- When temperatures drop below 32°F (0°C), the plastic becomes more brittle and prone to shattering. If you need to handle them in extreme cold, we recommend carefully handling to avoid damage.
Cleaning and Maintenance:
- The seed cells are made from #5 plastic, which is dishwasher safe on the top rack. However, like any plastic, exposure to the heat and chemicals of a dishwasher will cause it to break down faster over time. Washing them in the dishwasher a few times a year should not cause significant damage, but hand washing is recommended for long-term care.
